Question
Tammy –
what is the difference in the DE for Pets and the other? Also, are you recommending feeding it to the animal to control internal parasites? If so, is there a recommended amount to feed? Lastly, in your flea control section I did not see where it talked about applying DE to carpets and crevices in the home to help control fleas. I have been told DE is an excellent resource for that use. Can you contribute to whether pf harris agrees with this information?

Admin Riley Sizelove –
Hello,
DE is the very same for pets as it is for plants, insects etc. The difference is the registration process on behalf of both the mine and the companies that sell the good. Consumers have used our Food Grade DE for a variety of purposes, however we can only recommend what is strictly printed on the label. I would recommend searching online for the uses and benefits of DE as we can only state those uses and benefits that we are legally allowed to print on the bag.
Thanks,
Riley

Question
Helen Hartman –
When you add Diatomaceous to dog food, how much should be used? One teaspoon or a tablespoon?

Riley Sizelove –
Thank you for your inquiry. The label directions state to add an amount equal to 2% of their daily intake of food. Therefore if a dog ate 16 ounces (2 cups) of food per day. Take 16 ounces x .02 = .32 of an ounce. So it’s essentially 1/3 of an ounce daily. There are 6 teaspoons in 1 ounce so 1/3 of an ounce would be 2 teaspoons. You may be able to use that information in calculating what you should use based on your dog’s daily intake of food. Not on his/her weight.
I hope that helps. Thank you. P.F. Harris

Andrew Y Ko –
Hi Riley. Is the 2% by weight of dog food or volume of dog food? My 2 cups volume of dog food weighs 8 ounces by weigh. So if 2% DE by weight would equal .16 ounces or 4.5 grams.

Label directions state: Not to exceed 2% by weight of the total ration. Thank you. P.F. Harris
